Honduras is a vibrant country, brimming with clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, lush jungles, breathtaking mountains and fascinating ancient ruins. It is also a cultural melting pot of various ancestries ranging from the Mayan Indians in western Honduras to the Spanish influenced ‘mestizo’ race to the Garifuna communities found today on the coastal towns and the Bay Islands (home to one of the planets largest barrier reefs).
Home to a maturing democracy and an expanding tourism industry, Honduras is quickly becoming a favorite destination for backpackers and ‘off-the-beaten-path’ travelers. Hondurans, known as ‘Catrachos’, are a relaxed and hospitable people more interested in the sports and weather than politics. Honduras shares borders with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. It possesses over 400 miles of Caribbean coastline, which lies along the Belize Shelf Reef, one of the planet’s largest coral reefs.
